An understanding of the basic technology is required. Building -- the product manager spends time with the development team building the product. Project management skill to implement the technology is required. Testing -- the product manager spends time with beta customers and lead users testing the product. A knowledge of the customer and their application is required. Launch -- the product manager spends time with initial customers promoting the product. Marketing skills and promotion are required.
