What Can Art Institutions Do?: Chris Saines

Chris Saines, Director of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, presents the second of a series of talks titled 'What Can Art Institutions Do?', followed by a conversation with Johan Lundh, Co-Director of the IMA. \n\nSaines has 30 years\u2019 experience in Australian and New Zealand galleries as a director, curatorial and collection manager, educator and curator. He commenced as Director of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern (QAGOMA) in April 2013, having previously been Director of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o T\u0101maki from 1996\u20132013. He led that institution\u2019s $125 million redevelopment, which opened in 2011 and won World Building of the Year 2013. Previously, Mr Saines spent 11 years at Queensland Art Gallery, eight of them as Manager of Curatorial Services. He re-joined QAGOMA as Director with a commitment to internally curating major exhibitions both from the Collection and with leading international artists, and to touring Collection exhibitions nationally and internationally. His vision is for QAGOMA to be the leading museum for the contemporary art of Australia, Asia and the Pacific.
