First Thursdays, Dale Harding
Taking place within Dale Harding\u2019s (Bidjara, Garingbal, and Ghungalu peoples) exhibition 'Current Iterations' this special First Thursdays event brings together the community embedded within Harding\u2019s practice and the exhibition itself.\n\nHarding joins an esteemed line-up of family, Countrymen, allies, and experts from a variety of backgrounds to discuss one of the key touchstones in this exhibition: Carnarvon Gorge. This is an opportunity to learn about one of the world\u2019s most significant rock art landscapes, its centrality to Harding\u2019s practice, its cultural importance for First Nations people, and some of the urgent challenges this, and many other rock art sites, are presently facing.\n\nAfter having exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, Current Iterations is Dale Harding\u2019s largest exhibition to date. This show brings together new and recent works focusing on objects dislocated by museum practices, as well as living culture activated in and outside the confines of art. The show carefully addresses the relocation of objects, the creation of architecture and landscape in sculptural form, and the learning and activation of culture through carving and stencilling with mouth-blown ochre by Harding and other members of his community. Harding\u2019s practice of cultural continuity is both urgent and constantly evolving; it creates opportunities for shared expression.\n\nPlease note: Unfortunately the first few minutes of Harding's conversation with his father was not picked up in this recording.
