Thompson Forum, in Lincoln, NE, on Feb 26, 2019.\xa0\n\nHighlights from the discussion:\n - Jana trained as a mathematician and has worked at organizations like the National Science Foundation, Los Alamos, and a search engine company where she\u2019s always used AI as a tool.\xa0\n - Computing power is now commoditized, and there's lots of data from databases like ImageNet.\xa0These changes have brought Artificial Intelligence to the forefront again.\n - AI examples\xa0- Calendar scheduling, language translation, Waze, and Google\n - Machine learning vs. AI - e.g., Artificial light vs. natural light. Ask has the machine learned?\xa0Did it calculate how to respond?\xa0Did it recognize the context?\n - We need to understanding AI risks, but people should have a realist attitude.\xa0Don\u2019t run in fear.\xa0We\u2019ll find more things to do as AI takes over the basics.\xa0\n - Microsoft\u2019s Tay has been live in China for years.\xa0Big difference in internet culture in China vs. US.\xa0Tech Companies have had major gaffes on AI applications.\xa0There is plenty of thought on how to prevent bad things from happening.\xa0\n - China is using lots of data and getting practice and application with AI. Government is also investing. The US should invest in infrastructure.
