Somehow he was the person who introduced me to Huston Smith\u2019s World Religions, the poetry of Seamus Heaney and Francis Thompson, the novels of Hermann Hesse, and so much more. Far from a merely \u201cintellectual\u201d acquaintance, he was one of the first adults I knew who lived deeply with religion and poetry every day, and it meant a lot that he thought I could do the same.
