Pyjamas are extremely comfortable home wear, and it feels effortless to lie around in them all day. The pandemic has rendered many of us to stay at home mostly. And many of us have been wearing pyjamas more often than usual because of this. Since we wear these clothes only at home, there is an underlying question of how often they should be washed.

Normally, we wash our outerwear clothes usually after every wear and our underwear too. But nightwears and loungewear like pyjamas have little aspects of getting dirty since you wear them only at home. Some say they should be washed after every wear, and some think it’s good to last a week. But throughout all of this, what matters is hygiene, and what is good for your body. Good hygiene maintenance is the key to being healthy, and clothes have a huge impact on that factor.

There is existing data that advises on how often should anyone change out of one set of clothes (especially during the current pandemic when it’s important to keep up with hygiene) and when it is too dirty to wear. The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) concludes that how often you change and wash your clothes depends on the fabric, use, and weather. According to ACI, it’s best to wash pyjamas after three or four wears, but if you shower before bed, you could extend the wear before finally putting it on for a wash. But there are always exceptions, such as, if your pyjamas have stains on them, that would have to be washed promptly. Spot cleaning with a fabric cleaner also helps, which will also extend the clothing life, since fabrics eventually lose quality with frequent washes, except if you are using pyjamas made from high-grade cotton and silk. And of course, if you have white pyjamas, considering that they’re more prone to getting dirty you wouldn’t want to re-wear those too frequently between washes. In general, it’s comfortable to get away with re-wearing clothes like pyjamas, more often in winter. But with summer arriving, the sweat is about to turn up a notch. If you are walking around your home or doing any activity that might cause you to sweat frequently, it’s recommended to change into a different set of clothing to stay comfy and clean.
