Onslaught was the psionic entity created inadvertently when Professor X allowed his mind to make contact with Magneto's. The result was a devastating dark force that seemed to represent the inevitable destruction of all humans and mutants alike. Thankfully, due to the sacrifice of all the non-mutant heroes this force was stopped (and perhaps unfortunately lead to the Heroes Reborn story).
