River Jones – Celebrant, creative writer, song maker

Today I am talking to River Jones and her work as a celebrant.

River started conducting ceremonies for others in 1999, and have served hundreds of families since becoming a full time celebrant. In 2012 she left her previous work in adult education and community outreach for the University of Sussex, and completed professional training with the UK College of Celebrancy. Her qualifications include an MA in Creative Writing, Arts & Education, and is a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, the principal organisation which provides training and professional support to independent celebrants in the UK.

River says,

“I'm deeply inspired by the natural world - to be honest I’m a bit of a tree-hugger. I’ve always been curious about different spiritual traditions, and have found my own path in nature-based practices. In 2000 I joined the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids and in 2015 I was asked to develop and lead the order's training courses for celebrants.

As a celebrant, I take the lead from you: if you want a down-to-earth humanist type of ceremony, that’s what you’ll get; and if you’re looking for an authentic nature-inspired ceremony, I have a wealth of experience to offer. I'm passionate about my work and for me, it's all about making your ceremony perfect for you!”
