Comfy Cozy
Show Notes
Intro/ Premise of the show:
Hello, I’m cozy novelist, Etta Welk, alongside my skeptical mother, Deb. Each week, we’ll explore cozy and traditional mystery books, series, authors, origins, culture, or tropes, but we’ll keep it short and sweet, just like a real cozy.
Question and Answer session. One of us will pose a weekly question that we both answer. We’re reading cozies, you’re reading cozies, but we’re [always] not reading the same cozies… so NO SPOILERS!
Update
· Greg and Etta went to Seattle last weekend.
· He listens to the show. He likes Deb’s C words.
· Alice will say such cute little things like “I eat my dinner all gone” and loves to play pretend games. Exhausting.
· It’s October—Pumpkin EVERYTHING! (coffee, cookies, beer, …. Yum)
QUESTION: What did you think of “Molded 4 Murder ?” By J.C. Eaton (Book Review)

Molded 4 Murder
Author: JC Eaton
Series: Sophie Kimball #5)
Publisher: Kensington Books
Year: 2019
ISBN-13: 978-1496719904
COVER: Why is there a bat on here? This looks dachshund not a chiweenie…
Synopsis
Etta: Book keeper, “Phee” gets pulled in for another case in this fifth installment of the Sophie Kimball Mystery Series. An artist is murdered with his own clay, stolen items at a senior center… could it all be coincidence? Throw in a delightfully overbearing mother and a chiweenie for a nice airport/plane read.
Sleuth
Etta: Sophe “Phee” is quite likable though I find any story told in first person to have a pretty favorable protagonist. Even though this is the fifth book, she doesn’t seem to give herself much credit over her PI boss and PI love interest. That’s annoying. But her humility allows her to help people in need and get access to places she otherwise wouldn’t have.
Setting
Etta: Phoenix, AZ, Present Day (Yay! I’ve been there)
Suspects
Etta: Story jumped the shark a little for me. I guess I wanted the book to have more of an amateur sleuth vibe but it ended up more PI vibe. There wasn’t really a list of suspects I thought it could be…had a more police procedural feel.
Side Story
Etta: It’s tough when your sleuth starts dating. You can’t move the relationship too fast or it feels artificial but then again it was comical how many times Phee and Marshall would have to cancel dates. Nevertheless, this book had nice progression of the relationship without feeling stagnant. I could have used much more overbearing mom and crazy aunt.
Solution
Etta: Good ending to the mystery. Maybe a touch drawn out. But I definitely had a few surprises. Sweet ending for our sleuth.
Suitable for:
Etta: If you’re going to be on a flight pick this up beforehand. It’s a page turner. Though I wish the authors’ used more dialogue tags and were more careful when they changed a scene. This book is for casual readers. Don’t make me pay attention!
