Ares Capital is a Business Development Company BDC, that specializes in giving out loans and making equity deals to smaller-medium sized companies. This is an area that often gets overlooked in traditional banking and Ares helps meet this need. Although Ares is able to generate high interest rates and share in profits of the companies, there is a big amount of risk investing in smaller private companies.
