A movie so big it needed two podcasts!! With a 3 hour run time and 10 years of build up, we couldn't contain it all in one episode. We talk chills, thrills, spills, and hills. We discuss the emotional rollercoaster that is Endgame; from the most exciting moments to the most surprising deaths. Listen now to the conclusion of Cinematic Brotastic's two part podcast on Avengers: Endgame!
When the preceding movie’s cliffhanger involves 1/2 of the entire universe getting wiped out, you can pretty much expect the conclusion to be an emotional ride. Avengers: Endgame is just that, an emotional ride. From Ant-Man’s reunion with his daughter now 5 years older, even though the 5 years was just 5 hours to him, puts a little lump in your throat. Hawkeye and Black Widow fighting for the chance to sacrifice themself to get the soul stone pulled at the heart strings. But one of the most emotional moments was also unexpected. In the climactic battle, Hulk had used the stones to reverse the snap, however, the results are not immediately seen. Captain America looks like he’s about to meet his end, when a voice of a team member thought long gone warns Captain America he’s going to pass him, “ on [his} left.” More characters than we could count join the core Avengers on the battlefield, walking through portals created by Dr. Strange and other magical characters. What should have been a moment to jump to our feet with excitement, was filled with emotion. We were for sure excited, but inexplicably compelled to cry and felt a swell of emotion that made it difficult to keep our composure.
The overwhelming emotional experience was quickly replace by repeated awesome moments that had us practically jumping out of our seats with excitement. Ant-man as his larger self straight up punches one of those flying worm ships from the first Avengers film knocking it out of the sky. A moment we thought would never be touched upon in the films was when Captain America becomes worthy of Thor’s hammer. He not only wields it, he uses its full power. He throws it and it returns. He throws it at his shield creating a concussive blast knocking Thanos off balance. He even calls the lightning! Probably one of the coolest moments was when all the women of marvel teamed up to protect the new gauntlet from Thanos. Essentially playing keep away, the heroes are getting bogged down by Thanos’ minions. Finally Captain Marvel gets it and as she rises to the occasion, so do all of the female heroes in the franchise. This made for an exciting moment, and was a good testament to the fact that this is not just a man’s game.
10 years of buildup, a lot of hype, and yet it still met expectations. The 3 hour run time allowed for the film to include a lot of story. A big trend in Hollywood is to split a long movie into two films. This one kept everything in one, and although this is appreciated, we feel this is also its biggest set back. With travel time and trailers, when all is said and done, the whole experience took 4 or more hours. It’s not easy to just say, “I’m going to go watch Endgame!” If you go at 9 or 10 o’clock at night, you won’t come home until 1 or 2 in the morning. It takes a big chunk of one’s day. Both of us would love to see this film in theaters again, but probably won’t, due to its 3 hour run time alone.
The Brothers Brotastic rate Avengers: Endgame 2 tickets. Worth the money, and worth another screening, if it’s possible.
Until next time, we’ll see you at the movies.
And don’t forget to check your ticket stubs.
