Today, the upload and post for Postgirl's Recordings is about the meaning of Motown. To me, it means Detroit, Michigan with a soul music R&B sound with vocal groups since the 1950's like The Supremes, The Temptations, and Four Tops. The meaning of Motown.
That traffic jam that you just heard could of been all about Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Dancing in the Street from 1964. I'm thinking of a hot summer day because the release of the record was in July. It was recorded in June. So many of the Motown songs seemed to pertain to people's lives and the things that were happening around them. I believe that is one of the reasons why Motown got so big, and it's sound is still getting record plays and spins today. The songs we hear now are nothing compared to the songs of Motown. When you hear all of the songs of Motown's vocal groups. they were strictly to the point in their meanings. You didn't have to figure them out or even read the lyrics. You just knew the meanings of the songs by what you heard. And right now when you hear the rhythm, the base, and the beat, you know that it’s Motown. The Motown sound from Detroit Michigan. I’m Gail Nobles and this is Postgirl’s Recordings.
