This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Nothing is more important than supporting the education of our children through the disruption of the coronavirus. And few people are as concerned about their welfare and long-term success as Sydnee Dickson, Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction. SYDNEE DICKSON The academic, social, and emotional impacts of COVID-19 on our students will touch every corner of our state. But there is much that can be done to mitigate the impact and create educational success for the long term. The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) envisions three phases on the path to recovery: the new now, the near future, and the new future. We are working in the new now to ensure our students are fed, continue receiving academic learning opportunities, have their social and emotional needs met, and help seniors graduate on time with transition skills for the next phase of their lives. Our schools and districts are working to keep all employees working where possible and everyone is leaning in to help our students get through this challenging time. DEREK MILLER Meeting student essentials, bridging learning needs, and preparing for a return to school in the Fall are the three phases of recovery guiding the Utah State Board of Education.
