Speaking On Business: Utah Leads Together

This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. On Monday, Governor Herbert’s “Stay Safe, Stay Home” directive went into effect, asking us to stay at home as much as possible and to keep practicing safe social distancing and hygiene. In densely populated areas of the state Mayors have given the Governor’s directive the force of law. This strategic collaboration is necessary to balance protecting health with supporting the economy. COVID-19 knows no boundaries – and everyone needs to be vigilant. No one is immune, and while we are concerned about the number of people who may contract the virus, we are also concerned that everyone is adversely affected by the economic challenges confronting us now. To meet these challenges, Governor Herbert and his Covid-19 Economic Response Task Force, which I am honored to chair, introduced “Utah Leads Together,” a plan to combat and mitigate economic effects while maintaining a health imperative. The goal is to provide Utahns with a clear path and specific steps to aid in the health and economic recovery. It is a grassroots economic plan beginning with small businesses and their customers who sustain our economy. It contains milestones and benchmarks to monitor progress toward a flexible but measured time horizon. I encourage you to read “Utah Leads Together” at coronavirus.utah.gov. The most important thing we can do for the economy has nothing to do with traditional economics. Remember at all times to practice social distancing. Be smart and stay apart. I’m Derek Miller, of the Salt Lake Chamber, and this is “Speaking on Business.” Originally aired: March 31, 2020
