This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Three months ago, the Economic Response Task Force released a plan to address coronavirus entitled Utah Leads Together. We have now completed edition 4.0 to that plan where we spell out a series of key priorities and time benchmarks. This iteration focuses on what success would look like at 100, 250, and 500 days as we move through the pandemic. We know from experience the virus will ebb and flow, so our first priority is safety. Knowing that if we stay safe we can stay open, the Salt Lake Chamber initiated the “Stay Safe to Stay Open” campaign and drafted a business pledge to encourage consumer confidence and economic engagement. Reconnecting our workforce with their prior job or a better job will continue with targeted CARES Act assistance. As we move into the mid-term range, investment and reengineering the economy and our workforce is paramount. We can invest in building the state and help our citizens retool their skillsets with one-year graduate and credentialed programs. Utah has unique advantages and we will develop a cluster or industry sector strategy as we reclimb the economic ladder.
