Speaking on Business: Union Pacific

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Union Pacific Railroad moves hundreds of trains across 23 states every day, carrying passengers and essential material to keep America moving. Nathan Anderson, Senior Director of Public Affairs, is here to explain how Union Pacific teams are working hard to create unique solutions to keeping those trains moving through pandemic-related challenges. NATHAN ANDERSON Union Pacific was pleased to step up and help where we live and work through our Community Ties Giving Program, providing an additional $5 million in funding to focus on COVID-19 support and relief. As part of the process, we expedited the timeline for awarding grants to address immediate needs. Over 620 organizations received support, and more than $267,000 was given in grants to nonprofits across Utah. Additionally, a cross-functional team including our Engineering, Supply Chain, and Bridge Maintenance departments, produced and delivered more than 400,000 ounces of hand sanitizer in 48,000 squeeze bottles to locations throughout the system – to train yards, offices and warehouses. Many essential items and household goods such as respirators, water purification chemicals, toilet paper, hygienic wipes and cleaners are brought to the Utah market by rail, and we are honored to do our part in helping Utah stay safe. DEREK MILLER We are very grateful for the hard work of Union Pacific, its generosity, and essential items that continue to arrive in Utah during this critical time. We need this support now more than ever. I’m Derek Miller with the Salt Lake Chamber, and this is Speaking on Business. Originally Aired: August 25, 2020.
