This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Putting others first, even when your own life’s in the extremities – it’s all part of Utah’s Beehive Mentality. Lavanya Mahate moved to Utah from India 19 years ago. After helping women build small businesses, she determined to start her own, and today is one of Utah’s most prominent restauranteurs. But Saffron Valley is more than just five restaurants, it’s family – and Lavanya cares deeply about serving our community. (LAVANYA MAHATE) If we can’t take care of others, nothing else matters. When restaurant dining was closed to contain COVID-19 we felt the need to serve. We launched a program called “Keep Calm and Curry On” to give free meals to essential service providers who still have to show up each day and care for others. Last week we thanked healthcare professionals by giving away one thousand meals. This week we’re feeding grocery store employees and delivery drivers. Focusing on others brings blessings you can find in no other way. One grateful woman shared that we provided her first meal in a week that wasn’t hospital cereal. We can all do our part by supporting the heroic business leaders who support us. Lavanya and Saffron Valley Restaurants are open for delivery and curbside pickup in South Jordan, Sugar House, the Avenues, and Riverton. Please visit them at saffronvalley.com. I’m Derek Miller, president CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber, and this is “Speaking on Business.”
