This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. For over 130 years, Utahns have enjoyed fun and thrills at Lagoon Amusement Park. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Lagoon has found a way to provide this experience to customers in a safe way. The park’s Director of Special Events, Julie Freed, is here to tell us more. JULIE FREED Due to COVID-19, Lagoon did not open on time for the first time since WWII. Safety has always been the number one priority at Lagoon. Lagoon Senior Management had weekly meetings with the Davis County Health Department, partnering together to prepare Lagoon for opening with sanitizer, gloves, social distance markings, regular cleanings and masks. We spent weeks crawling over every inch of the 200-acre park, spray-painting the social distance markers so that everywhere in the park that we expected a line, we had social distancing in place. Meanwhile, Lagoon did a fundraiser for the Utah Food Bank and provided special discounts for front-line health care workers, as well as students and school faculty. Lagoon’s employees and guests feel that despite the pandemic our product is still as great as it has been in the past! In fact, some guests are saying it’s been the best season ever at Lagoon because our lines have been shorter. DEREK MILLER We are grateful for Lagoon’s emphasis on safety and family-friendly fun during this unprecedented time. Learn more about Lagoon at lagoonpark.com.
