We had the pleasure of interviewing DJ Topgun over Zoom video!
We’re pleased to introduce you to LA-via-Cleveland artist DJ Topgun - his fantastic new EP ‘City of The Freaks’ is available now and it’s a true stormer of techno, house music, and old-school electro.
The first single, “Fire,” is a sizzling four-alarm stew of classic ass-shaking house music. Dark and sweaty vibes abound, this one brings the heat while providing the perfect intro to the DJ Topgun sound. Elsewhere, the self-titled opening track features vocals from singer, songwriter & musician KennyHoopla who documents the experience of living on the wild side of Los Angeles. “Scream” is a rubbery electro track with futuristic sound efx floating above the bass. “Outstanding” features rapper MadeinTYO, best known for his single "Uber Everywhere." The track moves along with MadeinTYO’s vocals layered over a thick slice of ass-shaking bass. “Stranger Things” is the soundtrack to one of those quintessential “LA Nights,” driving and electric with all sorts of crazy stuff going on in the periphery. The EP concludes with “We Make Noise,” a bleepy electro-house tune that winds its way through the body. Now…go back to the beginning and play the entire EP again.
The EP was inspired by Los Angeles, one of the world’s cultural centers and a place known for the glitz and glamour with some rough edges. DJ Topgun’s LA experience is at the center of the concept behind ‘City of The Freaks.’
"City of Freaks is the story of the encounters I've faced with people in the city of Los Angeles, living a false reality of pretending to be someone or something they're not." - DJ Topgun
Being a part of multiple different scenes, DJ Topgun has collaborated with a diverse range of artists including Drippin So Pretty, Uno The Activist, Gab3, Kennyhoopla, Zelly Ocho, & more. Before kicking off his own solo project, Topgun was regularly opening for Lil Xan on tour.
Topgun has also modeled for major brands such as Pleasures, Crocs, For Those Who Sin, Sonder, & more. When he’s not making music you’ll find him partaking in his other passion, skateboarding.
