Cooking with Jaye: Cottage Pie

  • 1 pound ground beef chuck

  • \xbd onion chopped
  • \n
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • \n
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme, sage and rosemary each
  • \n
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire
  • \n
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • \n
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • \n
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • \n
  • 20oz frozen mixed vegetables (no need to thaw)
  • \n
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • \n
  • 2-3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)
  • \n

Make the mashed potatoes. Brown the beef and drain. Add spices and frozen veggies and cook for 2-3 min. In a separate skillet, melt butter, add flour, then wisk in Worcestershire and beef broth. Cook until it thickens and then add to beef mixture. Put beef and veggies into a pan, top with mashed potatoes and broil until mashed potatoes are slightly brown.
