In Episode 87, Gen and Jette talk all things alternative to purchasing physical copies of books. We chat e-books, audiobooks, apps, and more. There's a lot of library love in this episode and all around appreciation for all the different ways we can experience books!
\nShow Notes
\nThis episode was inspired by a few of our old blog posts: "4 Audiobooks and E-readers that Make Reading More Accessible," "5 Ways to Read Sustainably," and "How to Read More Books."
We love our Kobo e-readers so much and highly recommend for any Canadian who also wants to borrow ebooks from their local library.
\n
\nOne of our favourite things about all these different reading options is that it makes reading so much more accessible!
\n
\nShoutout to The Storygraph for getting Gen to read everyday with their January pages challenge.
Read all about the surge in digital reading through libraries here and about Toronto's incredible 9 million digital checkouts, which puts them at the top worldwide.
\nOverdrive is the main app for borrowing ebooks from your library through the Kobo. You can also borrow audiobooks and magazines.
\nHoopla is another app accessible through your local library and gives you access to movies, music, and so. many. comics and graphic novels.
\nAudible and Libro.fm are both excellent apps for listening to audiobooks. Audible is an Amazon company, while Libro.fm allows you to support a local bookstore of your choosing.
\nNot reading related, but if you're into films (as we are!), Kanopy is another library app that lets you watch a few movies each month for free and they have an extensive catalogue of recent films, classics, and foreign films.
