  • what the body loves more than homeostasis is having more fat cells for survival so it\'s natural for us to gain weight as we age
  • your metabolism can go into sleep mode when on a diet
  • anti-weight loss mechanisms kick in as a protective mechanism
  • it\\u2019s not your fault that you\\u2019ve gained weight, weight is something much more out of our control that we think

Another diet is not the answer.\\xa0What actually works based on my experience working with clients.

But what if your doctor is telling you to lose weight... No one should be able to tell you what to do. You get to trust yourself. You know how to take care of yourself and your body.     • Frequent reminders of \\u201cit\\u2019s ok\\u201d to prevent a guilt spiral
    • When you feel that it\\u2019s ok, it\\u2019s less all-consuming, which makes MOVING ON easier

    The next day, ask yourself

    • How did that serve you?
      • For me it felt comforting BUT I felt heavy/bloated after
    • How do you feel today?
      • Overall it didn\\u2019t serve me but it wasn\'t detrimental. I woke up today, felt fine, felt hungry at my normal times, and ate normally.\\xa0

    Isn't Intuitive Eating just where I eat EVERYTHING?

    These are the nuances that get missed:

    1. Developing interoceptive awareness: Interoceptive signals include your signal to go pee or the murmurs of your heartbeat. Hunger and fullness are also interoceptive signals. Are you listening to these signals closely?\\xa0
    2. Developing more trust around food and getting rid of diet culture. Once you are able to distance yourself from the noise, it allows you space to listen to your own internal signals. That is your true north!
    3. Cultivating more body acceptance. We think that our bodies are 99% controllable however based on long term weight loss studies and the set point theory, weight is not as much in your control as you think.\\xa0
    4. Coping with emotions without food. There\\u2019s so much work to be done to detangle emotions (anxiety, stress, sadness) from food. How can you meet your needs without food?\\xa0

    They do such a good job of emphasizing the psychology of eating. People love the coaching/reflection questions that are part of the app. HOWEVER...

    Food is categorized as red/orange/green

    The colors are based on calorie density however it does not always correlate with the nutrient density of food!

    Overall Takeaway

    Pros: Noom could potentially cultivate mindfulness

    Cons: Noom\'s colors could potentially warp one\'s perception of food and implies good/bad amongst foods.

    Trust your own instincts and not an app to guide you!
